From this angle it looks like a Queen's crown which would place it from the time of the Boer War.

Definately a Queens crown as david has said,think I would go with Mikes guess of a belt buckle?

Hi David,

There is nothing on the back of it. I have taken more photo's, could it not have been part of some insignia? I am also very intrigued by this piece, in the same area I found a bullet tip from a 303 and a cartridge from a Mauser.
