Am I to believe what I read/see?

I have heard mention of Egyptians/ West Indian but can anyone explain this?

If the photo is from 1904 they could have been West Africans in South Africa for some other reason?

During the Boer War I think East and West Africa had their own issues so would not have sent troops?
