I was left the two volumes of 'With The Flag...' when my grandfather died but sadly they got lost years ago when the family moved house. I'm now thinking of buying the two volumes but wonder how they stand up historically. Are they a fair history of that part of the war or biased? A recommended buy?

Berenice,

I should say thank you for 100 posts in your short time on the site. Your contributions have been much appreciated.

As to your question, I tend not to read the text too closely and prefer other sources such as the Times History and Maurice's History. I use WTFTP and APTGW mainly for their excellent pictures.

Best wishes

Thanks, David (I hadn't noticed the 100!). I've seen the two volumes on Amazon for as little as £25 so I'll probably get them sometime in granddad's memory.

I also had APTGW and a book I don't remember the title of but it was contemporary with the others and featured full-page photos of the British generals and other officers. All lost.

Berenice,

The other book sounds like Celebrities of the Army. That contains full page colour pictures of officers and cheesy biographies.

The books sounds good at that price. Hopefully the postage won't be too much??

Best wishes
