I also have another LARGE missing piece in my Genealogy puzzle - a Bible given to my Great grandmother, Hedwig Wronsky, by Paul Kruger himself, complete with a fatherly inscription. If I could find this Bible, (even though my family are Jewish), I could die a happy woman!! I have placed ads in British newspapers, an article I wrote has been published in the New Zealand Genealogist magazine (I believe that a contingent of the New Zealand forces were active in the area at the time)and have trawled many many websites, archives etc - to no avail.

in such a case, would the return of the medals been as a result of nobody claiming them or no descendants found?

Hello Denise,
Very interesting, I am thinking there were divided loyalties in your family during the Anglo Boer War, troubling and dagerous times for so many families like your own.
Regards again Frank

Yes, it could certainly be either, interestingly, in the case of Marshall's horse, in particular, often renamed names were issued to recipients.

The story goes a whole lot deeper. Another leg of the family actually took an active role in WW1 (in which Pvt Julius Wronsky was KIA at ARRAS, France, fighting for the Allies) and 2, where Martin Wronsky who was instrumental in the "conversion" of the Luftwaffe into Lufthanse. Herman Goering also had as one of his side-kicks, one General Heinz Wronsky. Many years later,a feud in the family caused the name to be changed from WRONSKY to WRONSLEY.
