My grandfather served in the Boer War and WW1, possibly German East Africa. He attached little import to his medals and sold them several years before his death in 1980. His name Clarence Victor Felix Källmann ( possibly listed as Coleman or similar). He was afraid of being arrested as a German spy hence the name change. Any information would be appreciated.

MKallman,

A quick look shows that there are some Kallman's on the roll for the Boer War:

C Kallman Nesbitt's Horse
C Kallman Prince Alfred's Guards Mounted Infantry
C V L Kallman First City Grahamstown Volunteer
Dr David Biggins

Fascinating, or there some way I could look at these records. It seems an enormous coincidence there are listings for 3 C Kallmans all in mounted regiments. His story was of being a bugler in a mounted regiment. Until he settled down he was either in the Cape Mounted Police or a farrier for the police.
