hi, I am looking for a medal that was awarded to my great grandfather Henry Tomkins in 1899 for his participation in the Boer War. On his discharge army certificate. It says awarded: 1899 South Africa. But no medal has ever been found. I'm not sure if it was claimed either. I would like to know if there is a way to find out if it has been claimed.

Good Morning,
Welcome to this forum, the title of your post should be missing medals as he is also on the KSA roll, interestingly, he is shown as Tompkins on the QSA roll, there is nothing to suggest that the KSA was not issued and his QSA is actually shown on his discharge certificate.
Unusually, his medals are not confirmed on his original service papers in WO97 at Kew at the time of his discharge, though, of course, as he was discharged in 1902, I would not expect the KSA to be shown as the roll was not prepared until 1904.
Again welcome, regards Frank
