Thanks for also enjoying the medals and stories!! I will post some more interesting "Elandslaagtes" shortly.

Remember : I have a very big advantage in having started collecting Boer War medals more than 40 years ago. Over the years almost 3000 QSA's have crossed my path, with a lot of very interesting ones firmly ensconced in my core collections. On the ABO side the figure is almost 600 with some 300 of them still with me.

Hi everybody

Two ABO medals to Boer casualties who, according to Michael Davitt in his book "The Boer Fight for Freedom", were robbed on the battlefield. The incidents were also reported in the "Standard and Diggers News".

I always find it interesting to read reports of incidents in a particular action as recorded by the two opposing parties: it could often be a case of "your story, my story and in-between is the truth"!!

Yes, I thought it might, but, I put it to you, that, perhaps it is just a coincidence, as both were fought on the same particular day in history?

You are to be congratulated for your early recognition of the interest and historical importance of the medals of the Boer War. You led the way for many of us who started collecting much later and your exceptional contributions to this forum and other mediums have been inspirational.

I for one am greatly indebted to you.

I have enjoyed my collecting/researching for a long time.

In fact, when I was in my mid-fifties the clash between my career as Consulting Engineer and my medallic hobby was so intense that one had to go. Guess which one!!!
