1900 - "At Jarrow to-day, George Storey, who was attired in a khaki uniform, was fined 2s 6d and costs for being drunk and disorderly on Saturday. Brian McNamara, who wore the uniform of the Durham Artillery Militia, was charged with being drunk, and also with damaging a shop window in Staple Road. The complainant in the second case, said that defendant had paid for the window, and thereupon the charge was withdrawn. Defendant pleaded guilty to being drunk, and asked for leniency, because he had just arrived in the town from South Africa, having been invalided home. A fine of 5s and costs was imposed."
