By Lt. Col. Steele, Commanding, Strathcona’s Horse

R.O. 41 – 19-02-1900

It has been brought to the notice of the Officer Commanding that some men created a disturbance in a street car on Sunday last. This sort of conduct will not be tolerated and should it occur again the offenders will be dismissed forthwith.

R.O. 42 – 19-02-1900

John Felton Gilmore having enlisted at Ottawa on the 19th February 1900, is hereby taken on strength of the Regiment and is posted to “B” Squadron.

R.O. 43 – 19-02-1900

Charles Heathcote Graham having enlisted at Ottawa on the 19th February 1900, is hereby taken on strength of the Regiment and is posted to “B” Squadron.

R.O. 44 – 19-02-1900

Major Laurie and Lieutenant Strange have reported for duty at Corps Headquarters.

R.O. 45 – 19-02-1900

The Officer Commanding wishes it distinctly understood that it is the duty of every member of the Corps in the event of any other member engaging in a disturbance or any disorderly conduct to report the same immediately.

R.O. 46 – 19-02-1900

Robert Stoddart McDonald having enlisted at Ottawa on the 19th February 1900, is hereby taken on strength of the Regiment and is posted to “B” Squadron.

R.O. 47 – 19-02-1900

In future Non-Com. Officers in charge of rooms must see that windows are open before morning stables, and rooms aired.

R.O. 48 – 19-02-1900

Horses that arrived today from the west must be shod immediately, commencing tomorrow.

R.O. 49 – 19-02-1900

R.O. 17 of 16.2.1900 is hereby cancelled; Until further orders, the morning foot parade will be at 9 a.m. and not at 8.30 am as previously ordered.

R.O. 50 – 19-02-1900

One Hundred and Forty Two (142) Non-Com. Officers and Privates and Ninety Six (96) Horses having arrived from the west are posted for duty as directed in R.O. 6 of the 15th inst.

R.O. 51 – 19-02-1900

Orderly Officer for tomorrow Lieut. Falls, next for duty Lieut. Parker.

R.O. 52 – 19-02-1900

Commencing tomorrow all Officers, Non-Com. Officers and Privates on permanent Staff Duty will be attached to “A” Squadron, and so shown on the “Morning State” of that Squadron.

R.O. 53 – 19-02-1900

The Senior Duty Non-Com. Officer of Troops must be present and take personal charge of the issue of feed for the horses during Stables.

R.O. 54 – 19-02-1900

In future “Half-Section” movements on foot, half sections will move simultaneously and not in succession, as directed in “Manual of Drill”.

R.O. 55 – 19-02-1900

The Quartermaster is directed to have a list prepared of all stores issued to the Corps from the Militia Stores, in triplicate.

A copy of each for the Q.M. Offices, The Orderly Room, and Colonel MacDonald, Militia Store Keeper, Ottawa.

R.O. 56 – 19-02-1900

Nose bags for Horses will be issued immediately on requisition from Officers Commanding Squadrons.

All saddlery is to be stamped on the reverse side of leather.

Saddle bags are to be marked to show Squadron, Troop, Name and Number.

R.O. 57 – 19-02-1900

Until further Orders, Private F. W. Beckett of “A” Squadron will be employed in the Orderly Room.

Clothing and Kit will be issued from Q. M. Stores to “A” Squadron, after Parade tomorrow afternoon

Clothing and Kit will be marked as follows : - S.H. No. 1 and so on, irrespective of Squadrons.

R.O. 60 – 19-02-1900

Until further orders Forage will be issued at 10 a.m. daily.

R.O. 61 – 19-02-1900

The following men having conducted themselves in a disorderly and unsoldierlike manner will cease to be shown on Regimental returns.

John Robson, “B” Squadron
Alexander Dalgleish, A Squadron
John Hobson, “B” Squadron

R.O. 62 – 19-02-1900

Acting-Corporal A. G. Crafter of “C” Squadron is appointed Regimental Quartermaster Sergeant from the 8th February 1900 on probation. He will remain on duty in the Orderly Room until further orders.

Hello Mike,
Lieutenant Mackie does seem to be a bit of a strict type, but, I suppose he is just writing down what Colonel Steele has told him to, I take it a "street car" is a tram?

Afternoon Frank.....

Yes a street car is the same as a tram in those days..... In fact the city here in Calgary, to get more of the diesel busses off the streets, are talking about going back to trams.....

Mackie was the adjutant at the time of the forming of the regiment....

Wait till later on and you see the list of men who are charged with self-inflicted wounds..... i.e. STD's..... LOL

There are a lot of things that can be classified as self-inflicted...... If you get a tattoo and it becomes infected you can also be charged.......
