The following transfer of horses will take place from today:-

Reg. No. 394 from "B" Squadron to Transport
Reg. No. 544 from Transport to "B" Squadron

The following extract from "Lines of Communication Orders" dated 12th May 1900 is published for the information of those concerned.

"Trained Belt Fillers"

With reference to para 1099 Queen's Regulations, 1899, Officers Commanding units of Cavalry, Garrison Artillery and Infantry in possession of Machine Guns, will take steps to have the men belonging to each gun detachment trained as belt fillers.

There will be a mounted parade this p.m. from "A" and "B" Squadrons. Fall in at 1.45 pm. General Parade at 2.30 pm. Dress - Drill order, waterproof coats and water bottles. Officers, revolver and belts, (not S.B. belts).

The following men of the Regt. Staff are from today returned to duty and will be posted to "A" Squadron Reg. No. 81 Private Orr, F.W., and Reg. No. 320 Private Cooke, W.

R.O. 562-14-05-1900

The following articles of kit &c being missing, belonging to the men named below. Officers commanding squadrons will have the articles searched for. Reg. No. 251 Pte. Sharples, W.A., one belt pouch. Regt. No. 225 Pte. Niblock, B., one water bottle, Reg. No. 226 Pte/ McLey, R. one mess tin, one blanket strap.

R.O. 563-14-05-1900

Refering to Reg. Order 518, Private A.E. Harrison's number should be 518 not 516 as stated herein.

R.O. 564-14-05-1900

Reg. No. 199 Private Hicks, R.C.H. was on the 10th of May fined 2s/6d by Lt. Col. Steele for absence.

R.O. 565-14-05-1900

Reg. No. 330 Pte. Hirsh, J. having being discharged from hospital will report for duty with the machine gun party and will be attached to "A" Squadron for rations.

R.O. 566-14-05-1900

Reg. No. 61 Private Bride, F. was this day by Lt. Col. Steele fined 2s/6d for drunkenness.

R.O. 567-14-05-1900

Reg. No. 34 Private Robinson of "A" Squadron was this day by Lt. Col. Steele fines 5s for drunkenness.

R.O. 568-14-05-1900

Any N.C.O. or Men wishing to ride out anytime with their own or any other horse will in future, put in a pass through their respective Sgt. Majors and Squadron Commanders stating Number of Horse &c, before they will be allowed to do so.

THE ABOVE PART OF ORDER 568 IS CANCELLED

The following excerpt from "Lines of Communication Orders" of 13th May 1900 is published for the information of the Command.

"Subject to the approval of the Field-Marshal, Lieutenant E. F. Mackie is appointed Adjutant of Strathcona's Horse from the 10th February 1900."

There will be a mounted parade tomorrow morning. Fall in will sound at 8.15 am. General Parade 9.00 am.

Do you think Private Robinson was rather more drunk than Private Bride, it does not seem very fair that he was fined 5 Shillings and the latter only 2 Shillings and Six Pence! :(

It must have been Pte. Robinson's second offence?????

Hello Mike,
So perhaps a habitual offender then, I see that Albert Edward Ryerdow Robinson also served as a Trooper in the Canadian Mounted Rifles as well, I wish I had his medal! :sick:

Yes Frank he served in 5th CMR which did not see any service.....
