Regimental Order

-0-0-0-0-0-

Orders by Lt. Col. Steele
Commanding "Strathcona's Horse"
Camp Lower Tugela River

12th June 1900

R.O. 675-12-06-1900

When horses are not watered on the line of march that is to say if they are watered in Camp each squadron must parade together under the command of the Second-in-Command, of the squadron when possible. The troop officers will be present when not detailed for other duties, and will be held responsible that the horses of their troops are properly watered. If they are in camp they will be taken back to the lines and fed or turned out to graze as circumstances dictate. The main point to settle in all this is that the horses get plenty of water, that all the horses are taken to the watering place at the same time, and leave at the same time. Straggling must not be permitted.

R.O. 676-12-06-1900

The regiment will remain in camp until further orders.

R.O. 677-12-06-1900

When the regiment is on the march the arms will be inspected in the morning before mounting, except in the cases of those in the outlying picquets which will be inspected at some convenient time during the day. All arms must be inspected daily and great care taken.

R.O. 678-12-06-1900

While in permanent camp the horses will be turned out to graze every day and taken in to be fed and watered before dark.

R.O. 679-12-06-1900

C.O.'s orderly will be detailed every day until further orders.

R.O. 680-12-06-1900

The Quartermaster will see that sufficient tent pegs are secured and tents pitched.

R.O. 681-12-06-1900

It must be borne in mind by all ranks that there is no place where discipline stands out so prominently as in camp and on lines of march.

R.O. 682-12-06-1900

In spite of everything that has been said on the subject the talk and unnecessary noise continues. No account must there be any noise at night or anything done that will distract or disturb the men.

R.O. 683-12-06-1900

On no account must the rounds be called. It is only done in fortresses and when men are liable to assassination or where soldiers of a different class than those of this regiment.

R.O. 684-12-06-1900

Until further orders bugle calls will be sounded.
