No. 1 Saddling

The attention of the regiment is called to the saddling of a horse.

The blanket must be well pulled up, in the arch of the saddle, particular attention must be paid that no creases are in the blanket, which are liable at all times to give saw backs.

No. 2 Repairs

The saddler Sergt. and all saddlers are to get to work at one to overhaul all saddles and repair any that require it.

No. 3 Lost

A rifle no. 128 belonging to Private Sutherland has been taken from a squadron kitchen. Squadron Officers will cause strict search to be made for this arm at once.

No. 4 Gone

Captain Livingstone and Lieutenant Walker, R.E., having joined their own detail are no longer to be shown attached to the regiment.

No. 5 Punishments

Reg. No. 513 Sgt. Simons, J., was on the 27th June reverted to the rank of Private for conduct to the prejudice of good order and military discipline.

No. 6 Transfer

Reg. No. 513 Private Simons, J., is hereby transferred from "C" to "A" Squadron from today's date. He will take over with him his arms and accoutrements, horse, &c.

No 7 Detail

No 1 Duties

Regiment for duty: South African Light Horse.

Patrol reports by regiments are invariably to be sent in by 6pm, on the return of the patrol as they are to be sent in at once to the Chief of Staff. In addition to the permanent duties performed by the regiment on duty re. (Grazing Guard and Provost Marshall's Guard) a patrol of one N.C.O. and four men will be sent out daily at daybreak to work from Standerton to Katbosch Spruit to examine and report upon the condition of the railway line between these places to the OC. Katbosch Spruit and communicate to a similar patrol sent out daily from Paardekop to examine the line between that place and Katbosch Spruit. The big patrol that goes out daily will invariably take copies of proclamations with them which ought to be distributed wherever possible.

O.C.'s are to apply to Brigade Major for copies if they have not already got them.

Capt. Steele, Vety Officer, S.A.L.H., will be veterinary in charge of "A" battery, R.H.A. and no. 2 Field Troop R.E. in addition to his other duties until further orders.

No 2 Returns

O.C. Units are to render their weekly returns and monthly field states as early as possible.

No 3 Paymaster

The Field Paymaster is expected to join Headquarters shortly (probably tomorrow).

No 4 Moves

The Brigade with the exception of the S.A.L.H. and No 2 Field Troop R.E., will march tomorrow under the G.O.C.

Strathcona's Horse, R.H.A., T.M.I. will move off with their first line transport, water their horses at the Vaal river near the bridge in the above order, and cross the bridge at such time that the rear of the T.M.I. is clear of the bridge at 9.15am. After watering, Strathcona's Horse will cross the railway and lead down the Vaal road for about 500 yards, halt and dismount so as to leave room for the rear of the column beyond the railway. No.18 British Field Hospital should be ready to move off at 9am and will immediately follow the Corps Troops Ammunition Column. Regimental baggage in charge of Lt. Pettyjohn, T.M.I. is to be ready to move off at 9.45am and will immediately follow Field Hospital 4th Brigade under orders of the Divisional Baggage Master. Supply column will be ready to move off at 10.45am under orders of Capt. Longdon, A.S.C. O.C. Commanding T.M.I. will detail one squadron as rearguard. The O.C. will report to G.O.C. 4th Brigade for orders.

One day's food for man and horse will be carried on the horse and two day's in the regimental wagons and three day's in the supply park. Tents will not be carried during operations. All empty mealy bags at present with the Corps are to be handed over to Capt. Denny, A.S.C. They will collected tomorrow morning under arrangements to be made by O.C. 2nd Brigade. S.A.L.H. will take up the duties for tomorrow watching the Heidelberg, Bethel-Ermelo roads with small patrols patrolling the railway to Katbosch Spruit etc.

After C Squadron is formed up on parade Capt. Cameron of B Squadron will take over command and will remain with it until further orders.

Capt. Howard is transferred to B Squadron by this order.
