No. 1 Detail


Orderly Officer of the Day: Lieut. Magee
Next for duty: Lieut Harper

No. 2 Horses

Horse branded C.V.D. on high neck and S.B.J. on high shoulder commandeered from C. Vandeveenter is taken on the strength of the regiment and posted to "B" Squadron. The horse is detailed to Reg. No. 201 Pte. Kerry G.A.

No. 3 Duties

Reveille will be at 6.30 to-morrow and the regt. will be ready to march off at 8.30. "C" Squadron will do the duty of picqueting the hills between here and Greylingstadt to-morrow. On the march Lt. Anderson's Troop taking the right flank and Lt. Pooley the left. The picquets must be in sight of the column all the time not - necessarily the sentries - but the main body must be in sight of the column.

No. 4 Rejoined

CpL Reid of "B" squadron, Pte. Mansell of "A" Squadron and Pte. Malaline of "C" Squadron rejoined the regiment this day from Standerton. Cpl. Reid will be attached to "A" Squadron for rations and duty.

No. 1 Movements

The brigade will march to-morrow at 8.30 to Greylingstadt in the same order as to-day. 'Strathcona's Horse will cover the front and flanks of the column. Medical units, 2nd line transport and supply column need not be parked as to-day, but will be ready to move off at 9.am under Capt. Deny, A.S.C. on a front of two waggons abreast, the left column leading, in the same order as to-day. The supply park following also on a front of two abreast.

No. 2 Rejoined

Lieut. Parker, Q-Master and Pte. Carson of "A" Squadron returned from Standerton to-day. Pte. W. A. N. Hegate returned from hospital at Maritzburg to-day. Horse No. 142 is detailed to this man.

No. 3 Clothing

With reference to N.A.O. men discarding clothing must first remove all buttons and take out such pieces as may be useful for mending other garments. All articles of kit such as waterproof sheets, belts, bandoliers &c which may be cast through wear and tear must be returned to the Squadron Q.-M.

3rd Mounted Brigade
Routine Orders

Greylingstadt
30th July 1900


No. 1 Returns

O. C. units will render to Bde. Major to-morrow field states for the month of July.

No. 2 Moves

The brigade will march towards Standerton to-morrow in the following order - Strathcona's Horse, "A" Battery R.H.A. I No.2 Field Troop, R.E., one squadron T.M.I. (not less than 75 men), Medical unit 3rd Mounted Brigade, Supply Column as required. Three days rations will be carried viz one day on man and horse, one day in regt. waggons and one day in the supply column. No supplies need be carried in supply column for the details proceeding to posts enroute. The force which will be in command of Colonel Steele will march at 8. am. The force will halt for the night at Watervaal Bridge where the Squadron of T.M.I. will remain as part of the garrison relieving the detachment of Strathcona's Horse now there, which will proceed with the column the following day to Standerton. The Squadron of S.H. will arrive at Greylingstadt to-morrow from Heidelburg will as soon as practicable afterwards follow the above column and if possible join it on its march to Standerton.

No. 3 Command

Col. A.L.Woodland, D.L.I., will command the troops at Greylingstadt until further orders.
