Berenice,

Here's a newspaper cutting which adds some more information.

Best wishes,

Justin

What is displayed in the museum?

There's a pair of Great War memorial windows from a closed-Methodist church.

Hey! The clipping says there was a bronze tablet in the entrance hall with a dedication. I never saw that and the staff who were there clearly weren't aware of it because one of them even went outside to check after I asked if there was one. I wonder if it's obscured behind something else; I can't for the life of me recall what was in the entrance hall when I was there.

Certainly the biggest I've seen to date for the ABW.

Thank you for the information on the contents of the museum. The local history museums that sprang up in Britain during Victoria's reign were a factor in fostering a sense of pride in the community. Thanks to the citizens who went out to serve in the Empire, they sometimes gained exhibits that were a window to the world for those who did not travel. They may well still be the centres for the activities of local history societies. Politicians in ivory towers in search of definitions for "Britishness" could well benefit from visits to local history museums.

Regards
Brett
