The original must have been quite a stirring memorial in its day. An unusual design for sure.

Thank you for your latest post, and a most interesting one at that. I think it is very commendable for the people of Wigan to have restored their Boer War memorial. Although not as impressive as the original, it is the fact that honour has been restored to war dead that is important.
