Hello i am a new member my interests are general military history covering most periods. I am researching a member of 84 battery who i believe was killed in action at the guns on October 3oth 1901. I cannot seem to find a list of casualties buried at Primrose cemetery Germiston or a roll of honour. The chap i am researching is Gnr. 74435 Walter Newell.I would much appreciate any pointers in the right direction. Phil.

Hi Phil,

And a warm welcome to the forum.
Your man is listed as Newall killed 30th Oct 1901 casualty place Braakenlaagte.
It is quite common for surnames to be transcribed incorrectly, it may be worth researching with this name.

Cheers
Paul :)

Thank you very much Paul.I have traced his records which is the only place i had found that he was killed in action.Braakenlaagte is also used. There does not seem to be a lot of information about the two gun crews other than the recommendations for awards.I shall have a look at the memorial in the Mall and get a photo.Once again thank you for your help.Regards. Phil.
