....Captain L. P. Cooper, 11th Battalion Imperial j Yeomanry, who was reported killed at Driespruit on July 23rd, was the fourth son of the Rev. N. Cooper, Oxon Vicarage, Shrewsbury. He was educated at Shrewsbury School and Selwyn College, Cambridge, after which he spent a year at the Oxford House, under the present Bishop of London. At the time of the outbreak of the war he was living at Trentham, in Staffordshire, as secretary to the Duchess of Sutherland's Institute.
....When the Imperial Yeomanry were raised in January, 1900, Captain Cooper joined the Staffordshire Company of the 4th Battalion as a trooper. He saw much active service in the 8th Division under General Rundle during the latter's pursuit of De Wet in the summer of 1900. He was recommended by his commanding officer for a commission. Captain Cooper was only twenty-six years old at the time of his death.
