That's an impressive memorial, but, then it was the Imperial Light Horse after all, very nice indeed, one for Brett I think.

Tpr. A. Shortt was severely wounded at Lancer's Nek on 3/11/99. He DofW at Intombi 23/11/00. QSA clasps Elandslaagte and DofL. I have a QSA to a Sjt. A.Apps of ILH who was also wounded at the same place on the same date and happily survived.
Regards
IL.

Hello Ian,
A very nice medal, I almost bought Alfred Apps QSA some seventeen years ago now, at just under £250 it was not altogether a bargain, from memory, my eyes were elsewhere, I bought a pair to the Cape Police instead, but, those were certainly happy days and the best time to actually buy campaign medals in quantity too.

Frank is right about this memorial. I am interested in all your posts, but this one being about an ILH soldier is even better than most others. Thank you for recording it.

Steve Watt in his book 'In Memoriam' records Shortt as a Wagon Hill (6/1/1900) casualty, and his date of death as 22/01/1900. His initials are given as A O. I will check later to see if there is any mention of him in Gibson's history of the ILH. The inconsistencies with both the memorial and IL's records are not surprising given the time and the place.

Regards
Brett

Afternoon all

Here is the memorial on Wagon Hill to the ILH listing all the casualties. It is clear from this that he wasn't a Wagon Hill casualty.
