Hello Berenice

Welcome back - another fine memorial thanks.

The link to the Bourne CD is interesting. I can't work out why Pte Tipler (Tippler) has an asterisk - he was wounded at Belmont (23-11-1899) with the Grenadier Guards, according to his papers he survived.

I wonder where the information on Tipler came from - someone's letter or a newspaper report? I'd have thought that if he'd died he'd have been included on the plaque.

Berenice
Palmer roll shows "6694 Pte B.Rodgers" of the 2nd Lincolns as Dying of Disease on the indicated date and location.
Again, the Palmer roll shows "7402 Pte. J.Tipler" as Wounded in Action at Belmont on 23/11/99. His unit being shown as 1st Bn, Coldstreams. As SWB indicated GG for this man, I checked both rolls and "7402 Pte.J.TIPPLER" is shown upon that of the Coldstreams. His QSA would have carried the clasps Belmont, Dreifontein, Johannesburg and Belfast and the roll shows "Discharged T.E. (Time Expired) 8/3/01".
Regards
IL.
