At St. Mary's Church, Sedgeford, Norfolk.

When I arrived at the church my heart sank - there was scaffolding and sheeting up, both outside and inside. I snuck in, unnoticed by the men in hard hats working inside, and couldn't believe that the plaque had been left in place while all the work went on.

Very nice, thanks Berenice.

Is the church redundant or just being refurbished?

Being refurbished - "urgent repairs are needed to the south transept roof, the south porch and south side gutterings and downpipes. All of the windows on the south and north side need repairing, restoring and cleaning which will cost approximately £20,000."
That's what's currently taking place and there's a carol service scheduled for 16th December.

I find it interesting that the "Greater love hath no man..." inscription was used on some ABW memorials. Previously, I'd always associated this biblical quotation with the Great War.
The more ABW memorials and plaques I see, the more I realise how much they influenced the way the Great War was memorialised.

Good news on the refurb, thanks.

There is not much new in WW1 memorials in terms of design or content; obviously uniforms change, civilians (including children) figure and the sheer numbers erected is greater but apart from that much remains the same.
