!!!

If only I'd known that while I was in the area, I'd have definitely found the time to try to find more information in the local press, either Worcester or Evesham.

During my occasional trawls through SAFF, etc, I have very infrequently seen such marginal remarks as "died of alcoholic poisoning" or something similar. In the case of Cpl. hands, perhaps not something the family would want to see in the local papers?

I was thinking more along the line that he'd drunk local badly-brewed ale or spirits, maybe from a still or with dodgy ingredients, which had resulted in his death, than his being an alcoholic. I can't imagine an alcoholic getting away with being a member of the armed forces for long without being detected and disciplined or dismissed before he got to the stage of dying.
