Any idea how he came to be remembered in Dumbarton?


He was an engineering student and worked at William Denny and Brothers Limited - shipbuilders in Dumbarton.

William Denny's eldest son was Peter Robert, Captain in the 1st (King's) Dragoon Guards, who was killed in action in South Africa in 1900.
