Good heavens Stephen, what a superb memorial, I can see it looks rather new, was it a replacement, or was it simply that someone decided rather late in the day to remember the war, moreover, who paid for it?
Kind regards Frank

Frank and any others interested
That particular memorial was dedicated on 25/4/2001 and also celebrated the Centenary of Federation of Australia. The current monument was manufactured by Kelly Bros. of Swan Hill. The first memorial dedicated to the men of that region was erected in 1919 and was re-modelled in 1958. It is not clear if any of the Memorial's original components were used for the 2001 renewal. Around the time of the Centenary of Federation, the Commonwealth donated funds for War Memorial renovation/replacement; State Governments also assisted.
Stephen- a very special THANKS for showing those two Victorian Boer War memorials.
Best regards
IL.

Further to Ian's sage comments, this column is to one of two, set on either side of the WW1 memorial. The other column is exactly the same (stone & shape). The other column represents all those that have serve since WW1, which is WW2, Korea, Vietnam, Malaya .....to Afghanistan from Swan Hill.

This memorial in its entirety due to its symmetry is very well done. Also all the flowers & wreaths laid at the site on Anzac Day was impressive and very moving. In retrospect, I should have taken that picture to share.

What struck me most, was the fact that one column was dedicated exclusively to those that served in the Boer War. I will post up the other sides which will give you an view of what I am talking about as outlined above.
