Interesting that we have three men in the Worcestershire Regiment, despite town being in Staffordshire originally. However, Worcestershire isn't that far from Dudley. Recruitment 'catchment' areas?

Hi, Patrick. Yes, I think you're right. Brierley Hill is something like 2½-3 miles from Stourbridge in Worcestershire. Maybe they enlisted in Stourbridge, but, as there doesn't seem to be an ABW memorial in Stourbridge, perhaps not..

Incidentally, I just found a Private George Pearson, killed in action, on Dudley's ABW memorial. The same Pearson as the one on Brierley Hill's? www.roll-of-honour.com/Worcestershire/DudleyBoerWar.html

Catchment areas were introduced in the 1870s with permanent regimental depots and cemented by the 1881 Cardwell Reforms with the introduction of county/geographical titles for regiments.
