A memorial window, dedicated to him, is in St. Nicholas's Church, Codsall, Staffordshire.

I wonder what the significance of the factory chimneys is. Did the family have business interests in the Black Country or Birmingham?

Berenice

Thank you for posting another beautiful memorial. I wonder how much such a memorial would have cost, and how that would equate to today's currency?

This post, like the two immediately preceding it, are "worthy of further research" as auction houses are fond of adding to the description of a particularly interesting lot. There must surely be a record somewhere about the circumstances of Wrottesley's death. Losing a Private overboard might warrant a footnote in the ship's log, but a Lieutenant-Colonel and Director of Telegraphs for the South African Field Force is an altogether more significant occurrence.

Regards
Brett

Perhaps lost overboard during a storm, Brett? He's also remembered on the Royal Engineers' memorial. www.roll-of-honour.com/Kent/ChathamSA.html

As a major, his death may have well have been reported on in the national and syndicated press, so I'll have a look in my local library next week.
