According to my Cavalry CD, the only "R.Jones" serving with 19H was numbered 4586. QSA clasps DofL, LN, OFS/Bfst/SA1901. Marginal note says "initials RH on suppl. roll". Clearly the issue of an SA1901 clasp does not fit in with the newspaper reports.

The newspaper reports are dated 1 June 1900, so the Laing's Nek and Belfast clasps are wrong too and I suspect the OFS clasp is as well if this was our man.

There are no papers for 4586 Jones which could mean this is our man, i.e. papers destroyed on death, or not.

I had another look on WO100/119 page 26 and it shows: "4586 Pte Jones R (clasps as noted earlier) issued 28/1/04" with note 68/19 Hrs/448. The suppl. roll (page 79) shows SA01 clasp, marginal note "Depot, England, Canterbury". There is another note (provisional roll ?Jul. 01). Cannot be the same man mentioned on the monument. Could be an enlistment under another name?

I've found a reference to him as "19th Hussars (P.V.O.): - Private Robert David Jones, Caedu, Beddgelert, Carnarvonshire."

Provincial Veterinary Officer?

Seems unlikely for a humble Private, more likely should read PWO - Princess of Wales' Own, part of the regimental title.
