HONOURING THE DEAD. - A picturesque ceremony was witnessed at Weston Rhyn on Sunday, when a memorial tablet in the parish church to Private Norman Lloyd of the 13th (Shropshire) Company Imperial Yeomanry, who was killed in action at Olivier's Farm, Ficksburg, South Africa, in the recent Boer War, was unveiled. Deceased was a brother of Mr. Edwin Lloyd, grocer, of this city [Chester] and a son of Mr. Allen Lloyd, late of Chester.
Cheshire Observer, Saturday 8th November 1902

Two other men of Weston Rhyn who served in South Africa were Private E. Jackson, of Garibaldi Terrace, who joined the 1st V.B. Royal Welsh Fusiliers, and Private E. Morris, joined the V.B. Royal Welsh Fusiliers, both in early 1902.
