He rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel before his death in France in 1915.

2ND BNT GORDON HIGHLANDERS THROUGH THE
SOUTH AFRICAN WAR 1899 - 1901
AND DIED GLORIOUSLY ON THE FIELD OF BATTLE
WHILE COMMANDING THE SAME BNT AT LOOS
SEP 28TH 1915 AGED 35 YEARS
GIVING HIS LIFE FOR HIS KING AND COUNTRY.

HIS BODY LIES IN THE MILITARY CEMETERY
AT CHEQUES, FRANCE
