I found this site today that shows some interesting postcard images of the Boer war memorial in Darlington, the memorial today is shown in an earlier thread.
Scroll down to St.Cuthberts Darlington to see images of the opening of the memorial and an image of the original soldier before the rifle was damaged.
What amazed me was the size of the crowds to see the unveiling.
