FROM THE EFFECT OF WOUNDS RECEIVED
DURING THE NIGHT ATTACK UPON KEKEWICH'S CAMP

His rank isn't given but I was surprised to find him listed as Private. His family were gentry.

I see that info was already all available here:
www.iwm.org.uk/memorials/item/memorial/46344
so that was a waste of time, lol!

Never a waste of time to re-post something that's elsewhere online, and from my own experience, the IWM site doesn't always accurately transcribe memorials.

As said, not a waste of time. Palmer shows "27345 Pte. T.H.Evered of 7th Imp.Yeo as Dangerously Wounded at Moedewil 30/9/01. SAFF marginal note says "Died 14th November". The action of 30/9/01 was particularly hard-fought and there are a number of references to it on this site.

The father Capt JGC Evered was a veteran of the Crimea. He lived to 100yrs old about 1830 -1930 and until recently there were old people in the village that remembered seeing him as a very old man in the 1920s The family home was the stately Barford Park . Local gentry, so I am curious that Thomas should be a private soldier. Maybe there is a story. Maybe it's just that the past is never what you think it is.
