I am in the process of compiling a family tree. I have a photo from 1901 of a head stone in a graveyard in SA. The details are as follows.
PTE.T.D Fletcher 2nd Grenadier Guards. Died May 27th 1901 Aged 21 Years.
In our family bible there is an entry. Tom died 27th May 1900 of fever Harrismith SA
I have another photo of a cemetery in Bethlehem S.A its a landscape shot of the cemetery with the town behind it in the distance. I am not sure whether the tombstone photo was actually taken in the Bethlehem cemetery.
Does anybody know exactly where T.D Fletcher is buried? I cannot find any record of him in UK military records or identify him through UK birth records.
Thanks.

Welcome ABWFletcher.

In Steve Watt's In Memorial he says that Private Fletcher was interred in Harrismith Cemetery.

There is a monument to the Grenadier Guards on Warden Street, Harrsimith.

Not sure if this is it?

Here are images from the eGGSA site, there does not appear to be an image of his grave as yet

Watt lists him as W. Fletcher as does the memorial

Gents, Thank you very much for the quick response and info. I have since found his service number : 6393.

He was christened William Thomas Fletcher. I am guessing that as his father and 3 cousins were named William he chose to go by Thomas or Tom. I have no idea where the D comes from on his headstone.
