MALCOLM KNOWLES,
LIEUTENANT 1ST ROYAL DRAGOONS, SON OF
ANDREW AND ELENORA MARGARET KNOWLES,
LATE OF SWINTON OLD HALL. AFTER SERVING
ONE YEAR IN SOUTH AFRICA HE WAS MORTALLY
WOUNDED WHILE GALLANTLY LEADING HIS
TROOP IN ACTION AND DIED AT KLERKSDORP
ON MARCH 28TH 1902.................................AGE 20.

A DARLINGTON OFFICER KILLED.

....A telegram received at Darlington announces the death in South Africa, on Friday last, from wounds received in action at Leeuwbosch four days previously, of Lieut. Malcolm Knowles, of the 1st Royal Dragoons, only son of Mr Knowles, of Thorpe Hall, Wycliffe, Darlington. Lieut. Knowles was only 20 years of age, and had joined the regiment quite recently, receiving his commission on the 17th of April last year.
