Paul, I take it that the photograph was hand-coloured before production. Do you know if they used artistic licence in putting colours where there were none in real life? I'm wondering if the colours in the sculpture were there originally or added for the postcard.

Hi Bernice,
Yes I have a few cards that have been "hand coloured"
I am sure there was a lot of artistic licence used but I don't think it detracts from the original memorials in my opinion.

Cheers
Paul :)

I agree, the tinting of the figures brings them out into prominence in the photo and colouring the laurel wreath green was a nice touch.

I was back in Liverpool recently and re-photographed the inscribed names, hoping to be able to transcribe them. Not possible, as many of the ABW names are now illegible, due to weathering. Online, there's no agreement over the number of names - two sites say 173, one says 179.

The names I can see from the eighteen lines are:-

Capt. D. Plomer, 2 Lieut. Kenyon, Q.M. Sergt. ....
Corpl. Plowman
O'Hara, L-Corpl. Smith, L-Corpl. H. White, Carney
Pte. T. Boyle, Pte. T. Bradburn, Pte. M. Brown, Pte. H. Brown
Pte. Clarke, Pte. T. Clay, Pte. G.W. Clayton, Pte. J.W. Clementson
Pte. H. Devine, Pte. J. Doolan, Pte. B. Dyson, Pte. J. Ellis
Pte. J. Gordon, Pte. J. Green, Pte. H.A. Green, Pte. H. Gregory
Pte. R. Harwood, Pte. Hawkins, Pte. Hemmings
Pte. Kennedy, Pte. Kirk
Pte. McCoombe, Pte. McDermott
Pte. Moxon, Pte. Neale, Pte. Nesbitt
Pte. Proffit, Pte. Radcliffe
Pte. Smith, Pte. S. Smith, Pte. Southall
Pte. Vine, Pte. Waite, Pte. W. Walker
Pte. Woods, Pte. Yates, Pte. Young
.......
Sergt. Sheard
Pte. W. Robinson, Pte. Barker

The Maritime Archives at the Museum of Liverpool has the regiment's casualty roll, but first I'll check the local newspaper for the report of the memorial's unveiling (9th September 1905).
