The gravestone details are incorrect. The date is wrong for Pieter's Hill which was fought on 27/2/1900. In Memoriam gives his place of death as Wynne's Hill on 22/2/1900.

Thanks, David. I've changed the thread title, but can't change the gravestone.

Sometimes the whole battle to break through to Ladysmith is called "Pieters Hill", hence this discrepancy in place names. This kind of discrepancy is very common on the Natal front.
According to my maps, Edward Ryan fell at approx GPS -28.704232, 29.822438
If you enter these in Google, or in Google Maps or Google Earth, it'll take you to the spot.
His unit [3KRR] was facing the Carolina, Middelburg and Ermelo Commandos. Where he fell is just west of Wynne Hill or Horseshoe Hill, and about 200m south of the Onderbroek Spruit. The spot is about 6 km from Pieters Hill itself and it can be visited by car, if anyone were interested.

The past is not dead. In fact, it's not even past.
