In proud remembrance of British soldiers who were killed in action or who died as a result of service during the South African War at places enumerated on this monument and who now lie buried here at Kimberley.

Created by the South African War Graves Board, 1965.

131 unknown soldiers are also commemorated.

With regards to soldiers who died at Kimberley I have found a soldier of the 2nd King's Shropshire L.I., 2659, Pte. D. Mountain, died of Disease at Kimberley on the 26 April 1900
he is however not commemorated on the main memorial located at Kimberley and I can find not trace of him on any memorial in South Africa
any one able to help
kind regards PHILIP
I have just noticed at the bottom of the memorial to the unknown 131 soldiers I presume he is one of these ?

Hello Philip
Having had a quick check in Watts in Memoriam . Your man, D Mountain is recorded as dying from enteric fever.
According to the records he is reported to be interred at Kimberley Gladstone cemetery, monument 2. Remarks column # RC9 - 27. Perhaps a S A colleague may be able to assist in a location or if Private Mountain has an entry. I believe the cemetery has many graves not identified. Good luck with your search.

Dave..........
You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough.
Best regards,
Dave
