Hello Dominic,
Apologies for the late welcome to the forum. I am wondering if the Yorkshire military museum's may be able to help? I had a look at the medal rolls for the 3rd Battalion. The clasps awarded were for service in Cape Colony, Orange Free State and a small percentage for Transvaal.
I also noticed that some 1st Battalion soldiers were attached to the 3rd Battalion. Having had a good trawl through the casualty lists pertaining to the 3rd Battalion, a large proportion were struck down with fever and died of disease.
There were minor skirmishes around Kroonstad and Rhenoster involving the 3rd Mounted Infantry contingent. A few troopers were prisoners of war and later released. Accidental drowning and accidents also added to their casualty list. It looks like the Mounted Infantry section suffered the most injuries from engagement with the Boers.
Alas no major engagements (3rd Battalion) However, on the 31st of January 1902 over 20 soldiers of the 3rd Battalion were injured in a train accident near Burghesdorp.
The York Army Museum and the Green Howard's Museum may be able to guide you regarding the 3rd Battalion. Worth a email if you have not already tried.

Not sure if this book has any details specific to the 3rd Battalion?

You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough.
