In Retford Town Hall, above the staircase between the ground and first floors. The 'tablet' looks to be one piece and as a whole is an incredible size, possibly the largest interior memorial I've seen, other than windows.

My thanks to Karen Kelk, of Bassetlaw District Council for sending photos 2 and 3 to me, prior to my visiting the town hall myself (on my birthday in 2019). I think I've managed to transcribe all the names. except for one initial.

THIS TABLET IS ERECTED TO COMMEMORATE THE OFFICERS AND MEN
OF THE SHERWOOD RANGERS IMPERIAL YEOMANRY AND RETFORD
MEMBERS OF THE REGULAR ARMY, MILITIA AND VOLUNTEERS,
WHO SERVED IN THE SOUTH AFRICAN CAMPAIGNS 1899-1902.

RETFORD WAR MEMORIAL.

UNVEILING BY GENERAL FRENCH.
....General Sir John French, K.C.B., unveiled at the Town Hall, Retford, on Saturday, a tablet in memory of the Sherwood Rangers Imperial Yeomanry and local members of the Regulars, Militia, and Volunteers who served in the South African campaign. The distinguished soldier was met at the station by Colonel Viscount Galway, C.B., A.D.C., and Captain Laycock, who was an aide-de-camp on his staff during the war. The town was thronged with country visitors, and it was gaily decorated for the occasion. General French, having performed the ceremony, spoke of Nottinghamshire as a county wherein loyalty, patriotism, and love of country were most marked and pronounced. From all sides he heard of the gallant and forward part the Sherwood Rangers had taken in the severe fighting in the Free State against De Wet. Sir John was the guest of Captain Laycock, at Wiseton Hall.

I've now found a piece linking him to Lincoln, so I'd ignore the Gainsborough mention at present.

Reporting on the return to Retford of the Sherwood Rangers, the Sheffield Daily Telegraph (18.6.1901) said : - "Lieutenant E P. Jennings, Privates E. Christian, Sleaford : T Revill. Newark ; M White, Lincoln ; W. T. Elwith, Nettleham, Lincoln ; E. L. Simpson, Kirton Lindsey ; D. Waugh, Calcutta ; W. G. A. Vallance, Sittingbourne, Kent ; E. Jones, Oakham ; J. H. Macrorie, Lincoln ; J. W. Smith, Lincoln ; W. Wood, Dronfield ; E. J. Mackinta, Falkeringham ; and J. W. Foster, Connisby, are staying in South Africa."
