A small brass plaque on the font cover at St Mary's Church, Wyke, a village situated between Bradford and Brighouse. Private Hepworth was a member of St Mary's.

To the Glory of God and in memory of
GEORGE WILLIAM HEPWORTH
OF THE 17th LANCERS WHO DIED OF WOUNDS
RECEIVED IN ACTION AT DEREPOORT
TRANSVAAL, S.A. ON JULY 11th 1900.
AGED 23 YEARS.
R.I.P.

George William Hepworth was born in the first quarter of 1877, his birth being registered at Dewsbury, so he wasn't born at Wyke.

A very unusual placing of a memorial plaque.
Palmer shows "4865 Pte. Hepworth, G.W. of 17thL" as being Dangerously Wounded at Derdeport on 11th July 1900 and died on the 13th July 1900. My Cavalry CD roll shows the place of his wounding as being "near Pretoria" and his QSA bore the clasps Cape Colony, Orange Free State and Transvaal.
Regards
IL.
