These two memorial plaques were originally in the school chapel, but are now in the Church of St Mary and St Helena, Elstow. The village is on the southern edge of the Bedford urban area, and is a conservation area, well-worth a visit.

....Death of an Officer. — Intelligence has just been received of the death from enteric fever of Lieut. Jas. Allan Whitehead, who has been serving with the 5th Manchesier Regiment in South Africa. Lieut. Whitehead, who was only 19 years of age, was the only son of Mr. Jas. Whitehead, clerk to the Todmorden School Board.
