A member from another forum made a request for images of this memorial, I was quite amazed I had not seen it before on my regular visits to York.
I found it yesterday in the middle of a very busy roundabout, it took some effort to get to it!
Of course the roundabout has been built around it and as such it is in very pristine condition, vandals would find it very hard to abuse!
Attached are some images although the sun refused to appear yesterday so lighting was not good.
The fallen are listed on all four sides of the memorial,if anyone needs further research of the names let me know for larger images.
It was interesting to see Lt.George Lockwood Dorman's name on the memorial as his Father had built the local museum in his honour.
He is also shown on the The South African memorial in Albert Park Middlesbrough my home town and one of my boyhood playgrounds.
Links are below,I hope they are of some interest.

Nice one Paul. You really have to dodge the traffic to get on the island to see this memorial! I have the QSA clasp Cape Colony to 2435 Pte. E. Ward of the 1st Battalion who was KIA at New Zealand Hill, Slingersfontein 15/1/1900.

I take it you've seen the memorial at Duncombe Place, near the minster, which lists all Yorkshiremen who died in the Boer War irrespective of unit. There are also Boer War memorials to the 18th Hussars and West Riding Regimant inside the minster.

Cheers

David

Paul - I've had the Ward QSA about 25 years but it wasn't obtained in Yorkshire. I got it from a dealer's list, probably Liverpool Coin & Medal.
