I will see what I can find on the way down to Cape Town.

I only stop 3 times during the 1700 Km trip. I will leave Durban at 20H00 on Thursday and arrive in Bloem at approx 2am fill up and have a coffee. Then Beaufort West at 8am fill up and breakfast. There are Boer War graves here so I will send the wife off for "Pad Kos" and have a look. Lastly, Matjiesfontein for lunch and a break. It's only 250 odd Km from Cape Town. I always stop at the Lord Milner Hotel and check out the Museum which has a few medals etc.

Matjiesfontein apparently had approx 12000 British troops stationed there during the ABW.

Other than that, Simonstown Old Cemetery when I go to the Naval Base (which I do every time i am in town) which has a few early Boer War graves and of course Maitland if I get the chance. The Archives will take a day or two. Lots of CP work to do.

Just got to send the wife to Cavendish Square and the Cape Quarters first for a couple of days!!! :cheer: :cheer:

Cheers
Adrian

Just joking Adrian....but if you do go to the old Simonstown cemetry where the Boers are buried, you can see my Swiss/Dutch part of the family, family crypt. You cannot miss it, the only one that is maintained, it is painted white with the name Hablutzel in marble above the door.

Brian,

I managed to stop off in Bethlehem (OFS) and Colesberg (Northern Cape)on my journey from Durban to Cape Town.
Interesting graves stones in both, there are a few Australians and a Canadian buried in the ABW Cemetery in Colesberg as well as a single man from the Cape Police. Sadly his attestation papers did not survive.

The Cemetery in Bethlehem has many Imperial troops buried there as well as several men from the ILH.

I have attached several photos.

Regards

Adrian
