Hello Adrian,
Superb, just superb, a little bit sad to see them too, I suppose, but, they really are quite nice, I was quite taken by Ross's in particular and then there is also Macdonald's too, the fight at Norval's Pont could have been intense and really desperate!
Kind regards Frank

An excellent record, Adrian! Thank you for taking time off to photograph the memorials and for posting them here.

Good morning Adrian,
I forgot to add, that I was particulary interested when I saw Macdonald's stone, after the bridge was destoryed, it just seems such a waste to see more lifes being claimed, some of the Railway Pioneer Regiment officers actually had their slouch hat badges made by a local and very skilled artisan, who used both steel and timber from the bridge itself in the construction of the same.
Again, really wonderful photos, you can really reach out and touch history in South Africa, even today.
Kind regards Frank

Hello Frank,

Thank you for the very interesting info about the slouch cap badges,I never knew that. It is sad to think that MacDonald came all the way from the USA only to perish in the middle of no where!!!
