Hello Iain,
I think it was actually me who mentioned K first, so clearly my fault! :(
Regards Frank
Now with an image of Hester and Lady Roberts both together discussing their husbands! :)

Yes, perhaps Lady Roberts would have invited Cronje for tea and talked it though, but I'm sure She would have listened to her staff.

This post has become a K post and moved away from poor Lieutenant Moir.

kind regards, Iain

I think if Lady Roberts had been in command, there may not have been a battle!
I think K, knew very well indeed, that you just don't charge Mauser's, Maxim's and Artillery with a handful of MI, he lost his head and ended up running around the field issuing orders without actually using the proper chain of command. :(
Kind regards Frank

In St John's Episcopal Church, Dumfries, Scotland.

DEATH OF LIEUTENANT MOIR.

The death occurred at Bloemfontein on Friday, from enteric fever, of Lieutenant G.G. Moir, of the 1st King's Own Scottish Borderers. Lieutenant Moir, who belonged to Betchworth, Surrey, served till quite recently with the 3d Battalion (Dumfries Militia), being seconded for active service while with them at Belfast, and was a young officer highly popular with all ranks.

At bottom left of the plaque is the manufacturer's name, which is slightly worn (through polishing?) and I can't read it. It's, I think, 'something & something, London.'
