His sword has been hung up but is there any relevance to the sash and bow?

I should also add this post and photo which has an added inscription which I didn't see through the grass - www.angloboerwar.com/forum/13-miscellany...rrect-record-details

Some mentions of him in the press.
.
....On Thursday those men connected with the Bolton and Blackburn troops of the Duke of Lancaster's Own Yeomanry, who have volunteered for service in South Africa, assembled at the Chorlton Town Hall for medical examination. . . . . Among those accepted is Mr. F. W. Hackforth, eldest son of Mr. Hackforth, chemist, of Leyland. Trooper Hackforth has had no previous military experience, but has spent six years ranching in Canada, and is a capital rider and a good shot.

A LEYLAND YEOMAN
....Trooper Hackforth, who is attached to the Blackburn troop of yeomanry selected for service in South Africa, left Leyland on Tuesday for Clitheroe, where he took charge of his horse, and the following day proceeded to Blackpool, where the men will be trained, and have musketry practice at the Fleetwood range.

A LEYLAND MAN JOINS THE YEOMANRY
....On Thursday afternoon, Mr. F. W. Hackforth, son of Mr. Hackforth, chemist, Leyland, paid a visit to his parents prior to proceeding with the Duke of Lancaster's Yeomanry for South Africa, and in the evening the villagers organised a demonstration in his honour, a large crowd assembling in Towngate, and he was escorted to the railway station by the Leyland subscription band, departing by the 8-21 p.m. train amid enthusiastic cheering, and the detonation of fog signals.

Berenice,

Many thanks - very interesting and and unusual memorial. The sash and bow is his sword sash which he would have worn over his sword belt.

All best,

Justin
