But exactly when and under what circumstances was this particular figure made, was it done merely from a photograph, was a model used, the bandolier may well not be wrong, in fact, I would be actually quite surprised if it were really.

The statues were probably made in late 1904/early 1905. In March 1904 the memorial was described as having figures of "Yorkshire warrior saints". I did not find a date as to when this was changed to the contemporary service personnel.

The sailor figure was paid for by Gerald D Faber, Conservative MP for York 1900-1910.

Hello Meurig,
In all honesty I'd be quite surprised if the basic details were wrong, people seem to have gone to an awful lot of trouble with this fine memorial and I can see why you and so many others like it so much.
