On the tower of St Margaret's Church - the tower is, and was at the time the plaque was put there, the only part of the church still standing. It's the plaque on the right. St Margaret's closed in 1858, the new church, St James' opened in 1863, which begs the question why it was placed where it is. As it's sited now it can only be read with the sharpest of eyes.

The method of "parking" in the second photo is rather insensate, but the church looks good, as is the memorial.

Narrow village streets and double-decker buses trying to get along them aren't a good mix. So it's understandable for locals to park on the pavements if they want to keep the bus service which also brings visitors (like me) to the village to spend money. Grasmere is even worse for traffic congestion.
