The plaque is now in the SJAB's county headquarters in Preston.

Tom Peat. Died in Middleburg Hospital, South Africa, on 17th November 1901.

He had served in the 11th General Hospital in CC and OFS.

Interestingly on the QSA roll it says 'Convoy duty to Boshof'. I hadn't realised the SJAB men were mobile.

I'd be interested to know what the fatality rate was among SJAB men as they were at high risk of contracting enteric fever and other communicable illnesses from the men they were tending.

There is a paper by Kay de Villiers and Peter Beighton somewhere in the Library - I will pull it out - on the casualties and their grave sites.
Looking for Salutries, Salootries and Veterinary Duffadars.
I collect primarily QSAs to Indian Recipients.
