Hello

The place is not showing up on Google maps (or the like) then I suspect it is a farm, which has changed its name or disappeared.

Ishmael is now buried in Harrismith, Orange Free State; the SA government bought in outlying graves into larger cemeteries where they could be looked after more easily than the many isolated and lonely graves.

I think then, that the "Tyger Kloof" is or nearby the location of Tiger Kloof Spruit - scene of a VC action on 18-12-1901, and I guess Hatheringsdal was a farm close by. This needs further checking though.

Have you asked the Manchester Rgt museum?

Hello

The burial place is recorded in a book called In Memoriam, Steve Watt, University of Natal Press, 2001.

When the new cemeteries were created grave markers were taken in as well, so the cross may well be in Harrismith.

Thank you is there any way I could find any online information regarding this or any photos of the cross or cemeteries
I am really interested in what battles he was involved in and how he died but I seem to be coming up with a blank regarding this

Hello

If you can't find the information on-line then it probably doesn't exist on-line.

In this situation you need to consult books (or the Manchester Rgt museum) - the action in which he died was, in the scale of the war, a small affair (16 casualties) and may not have been recorded in any detail.

Alternatively you could engage a researcher.
