Hugh Selwyn Gaskell's book With Lord Methuen in South Africa narrates his experiences in the period February 1900 to May 1901.

It is a chronologically arranged account in 21 unnamed chapters and makes very interesting reading. I could imagine his experiences be shared by many of the IY in South Africa at that time.

Hugh served in the Great War as a Captain in the RAMC. There is a biography of him here: gaskellfamily.com/HughSelwynGaskell.htm

The book is available here: www.angloboerwar.com/books/211-gaskell-w...huen-in-south-africa
