The ABW site started almost 20 years ago.

The notes for the first day recorded that '26 Nov 2004: Site first published. Site contains chronology, several medals awarded pages & RN Ship information.'

We have come some way since then and I would like to thank the many people who have supported and contributed to the site over the last 20 years.

Very best wishes
David

Hi David,

Thank you for this site and I can only imagine the effort it has taken to generate and maintain it; it has proven to be extremely valuable to the avid researcher of the ABW.

In addition it has attracted many like-minded people who seek to contribute and support others with their research; well done for all their contribution as well.

David, we all owe you a debt of gratitude for starting and maintaining the site which has been and continues to be the go to online reference point for all things ABW. Thanks for all your considerable efforts.

I'm very impressed with the scholarship of the site. I think reaching 20is definitely the start of maturity and the site has that feeling about it now.
So much of the material is really good,so good that perhaps it seems somewhat too humbly presented, and too fragmented, in the topic-discussion format?
I wonder if a large selection of topics might be re-formatted as monographs, rather than strings of discussion? They could then act as an online resource which is more easy to read and more readily found by searching. The OVSAC monographs come to mind as examples of how they may look. When more material emerges it could be added, so these would be 'living documents'.
Is it only me who feels that much of what we have here is good enough to publish online?

Thank you, everyone, that is much appreciated.

@Rob, you make a very valid suggestion about how the information in the site could be structured differently to make it more accessible. There are many examples of very good research such as the tribute medals, information on artillery and small arms, transport ships etc. It would be possible to generate an annual index of the research that year, in some form of AngloBoerWar Yearbook perhaps? This could be in PDF format and made available for download. We are making some progress towards this through the creation of index forum posts such as the ones for transport ships, medals to correspondents, Hong Kong Plague medals etc but these are few in number. Berenice started to collate some of the memorial information too.

Let's have a think about how this could be approached.

Best wishes
David
